RYA Powerboat Courses

RYA Powerboat Courses

The RYA’s National Powerboat Scheme is for those who use small, open powerboats for leisure or work, whether for their own sake or in connection with another activity such as sailing or rescue.

Examples of boats relevant to this scheme are sportsboats, RIBs, dories and launches which do not normally provide accommodation or cooking facilities.

The scheme comprises a series of practical courses which can be complemented by our navigation courses and other one-day support courses. Use them simply to increase your knowledge and confidence, or as a progression to the RYA/MCA Certificates of Competence.

Most courses take place over two days. You can expect to be taught by an experienced, qualified instructor either on our centres boat, a 6.5m RIB or on your own boat if you so wish. There is normally a maximum of three trainees (depending on the level of course).

Our location in Fowey Harbour provides us with year round training ability. We utilise all of St Austell Bay with our navigation excercises encompassing Mevagissey, Charlestown, Polperro and Poole. Our advanced courses take in Plymouth or Falmouth.
