Our RYA First Aid Course is delivered by experienced First Aiders, most of whom work in the medical profession and have extensive boating experience. Most importantly however, is that they are also yachtsmen, and so appreciate the added problems that dealing with a first aid situation at sea presents.
During the course you will be taught how to do mouth to mouth resuscitation and chest compressions, in both the classroom, and a more confined location such as in a yacht galley. You will go through putting someone in the recovery position, dealing with common medical emergencies such as asthma, epilepsy and diabetes, as well as dangers specific to sailing  such as drowning and hypothermia.

 Bear is one of the last International Six Metres designed by PellePetterson and is believed to be the sister of Peterson’s Six Kratos. Was extensively restored in 2008 with new wings, electrics and was repainted. Said to be one of the fastest Sixes and with new sails and an upgraded rig would match the best in the world. Owner opting for a more leisurely sailing pastime..

‘Bear’ was significantly  refurbished in 2008; hull and deck repainted, keel removed and keelbolts checked, new  wing, trim tab and rudder assemblies checked, bearings replaced, Tack Tick wind, Speed and Depth installed and new carbon spinnaker boom.

History:

Four boats were built from the same drawings. Bear was commissioned by BengtHellsten and raced in Scandinavia, the United States and the UK. Her current owner raced her in the UK and in France

International 6m Technical Specification

We spend the week exploring the stunning Cornish & Devon coast’s visiting places like Dartmouth, Salcombe, Newton Ferrers or Falmouth, St Mawes, Helford or even the Isles of Scilly. During which time we fully involve the whole family from trips to the beach to teaching them how to row and handle the tender, we may even take in some Dolphins along the way !

Our fully qualified RYA instructors will make sure all aspects of the RYA Sylabus are covered with you, they are all “child friendly” and committed to you having a wonderful week.

 Van de Stadt designed boats have a reputation for solid, safe and reliable yachts with good sea keeping qualities and this one is a real gem, one of the best prepared older generation boats we have seen. She is exceptionally well maintained with a good level of equipment. The accommodation is spacious and well laid out with a double v berth in the forward cabin, two single berths in the saloon together with a large quarterberth. All the interior upholstery is in very good condition. Storage can only be described as extremely generous throughout.

Although she is nearly 40 years old, very little, if any, work is required to bring her into commission. She has been newly antifouled and her engine recently serviced. ‘Quiet Lady’ should be high on the list for anyone looking for their first cruiser, a viewing is highly recommended.

Van de Stadt 8m Offshore Technical Specifications

Designed by Rolf Magnusson, the Albin Ballad is a fast, seaworthy cruiser-racer from the 1970s and has proved to be very safe and comfortable with excellent performance in both heavy weather and light airs. ‘Kotuku’, a MkII variant, has been meticulously maintained throughout and comes complete with an extensive suite of racing sails and has decent sized engine with the result that she can be both competively raced or extensively cruised.

Albin Ballad – Technical Specifications

The RYA Intermediate powerboat course is aimed at those undertaking short coastal passages. The course builds on the skills developed on the Level 2 course and arms you with the skills to confidently deal with all aspects of the planning and execution of short coastal passages.

The RYA advanced powerboat course is an excellent course aimed at the keen amateur or professional power boater keen to develop a variety of their skills including night navigation, rough water handling and search techniques.

We are also able to offer powerboat Instructors courses, commercial endorsements and International certificates of competence.

‘Ad Astra’  £48,500

Ad Astra has previously been extensively cruised, however for the last 6 years she has lain neglected in a local working boat yard. At some point she had suffered from an ingress of water which has caused considerable internal damage. She has since been partially cleaned and attempts have been made to dry her out. Her internal joinery throughout has suffered cosmetically but appear to be, in the main, sound. Upholstery throughout requires replacement and has been removed and stored within the yard and is available for use as a template for new.

Externally, her deck have become contaminated with rust, special chemical processes should be able to remove these marks.  Her recent survey has concluded that she is structurally sound and a worthwhile restoration project

Ad Astra is clearly a project boat, not for the fainthearted, in need of a complete refit and thorough restoration. That said, she does offer the opportunity of acquiring a vessel, capable of long distance cruising, at a price which will allow any new owner to refit according their specific needs, resulting in a good sized, well respected yacht with all new equipment and machinery for much less than available on the current market.
